The Maize High boys’ swim team made things look easy in the pool Saturday afternoon for the AVCTL division one annual meet.
Out of the twelve events that took place at the meet Maize won ten of them, impressive to say the least.
Obviously the point total was not even close when officials tallied up all of the action on Saturday from the Salina South pool.
Maize ended up with 395 team points, Derby followed with 231 points and in third was Hutchinson with 190 points.

Not only did Maize swim past the competition with ease, they also set several impressive records on the day.
Maize’s Mitchell Wagner set a pool and league record time in the backstroke event with a scorching time of 52.83 seconds.
“Mitchell has worked hard to get here…all year”, says Maize head coach Hussein Yassine.
Wagner also took first in the 200-yard IM, just another highlight on his impressive day.
Another strong swimmer from Maize was Gavin Olson, he competed in several events and had excellent showings in each event. Olson took home first in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.
Maize's Lucas Popp finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
On the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Maize high squad also set a pool and league record with a blistering time of 3:17:86 seconds.
That team was made up of Gavin Olson, Mitchell Wagner, Christopher Clemons and Lucas Popp
“As a team we all swam good…and I really think that made the differences”, added Yassine.
The focus for Maize now shifts…mainly looking at next Saturday. The Kansas swimming and diving finals will be held next Friday and Saturday in Topeka, if the Eagles want to capitalize on this season they know it will take supreme focus over the next week.
“We still have some things to work on”, says Coach Yassine.
“We need to reestablish our focus right now”, added Yassine.
Earlier on Saturday, Salina Central’s Kyler Bell captured first in the one-meter diving event with a final score of 331.10 points.
Event nine saw Hutchinson win the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Matt McKenna, Adam Ferguson, Max Stewart and Eric Mullins posted a team time of 1:34:47 seconds.
