The Newman's men's basketball team moved back into the top 25 of the NABC/Division II rankings at No. 21, announced Tuesday (Feb. 19) by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The Jets are ranked for the fifth time this season and reenter the polls for the first time since Jan. 22.
Newman (19-4, 9-3 Heartland Conference) have won five of its last six games, including a current two-game winning streak. Last week, the Jets were impressive in two wins, defeating Oklahoma Panhandle State, 74-60, and Texas-Permian Basin, 80-62.
The Jets are tied atop the Heartland Conference standings with Arkansas-Fort Smith and the two teams clash this Saturday (Feb. 23) at 4 p.m. at Fugate Gymnasium. The winner of the game clinches at least a share of the Heartland Conference championship.
Metro State ranks No. 1 in the latest poll. Western Washington and West Liberty are No. 2 and 3 with Cal Poly Pomona and Seattle Pacific rounding out the top five.
