Five game remain to determine the Shockers' post season plans: play amazing and get a great seed in the NCAA Tournament or not and await the basketball gods.
Gregg Marshall is planning on treating this stretch like a mini-tournament for his team and it starts Sunday with Illinois State.
"For obvious reasons these games have additional value," Marshall said Friday afternoon. "They are going to determine our seeding in St. Louis (in the MVC Tournament); they are going to determine whether we are champions or second runner-up, if you will, and determine what tournament we go to."
Illinois State went from surprising doormat to surprising player in the conference. The Redbirds started the MVC schedule 0-6 before going 7-1 to this point.
Jackie Carmichael is averaging almost 19 points a game for Illinois State, all part of the second best offense in the Valley, averaging 76 points a game.
Wichita State boasts the best defense in the conference, limiting opponents to less than 40 percent shooting for the season. They held Drake to 56 points Wednesday night.
With the Indiana State loss Saturday to Bradley, it really becomes a tw-horse race between Creighton and the Shockers for the Valley regular season title.
