FHSU's Lehman & Edwards Named to All-MIAA

Fort Hays State had two players selected to the 2012-13 All-MIAA Women's Basketball Team, released on Tuesday. Kate Lehman was named All-MIAA First Team and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Katelyn Edwards was named to the Third Team. For both players, it was the second straight year they were named to the All-MIAA Team.

After earning third team honors as a freshman in 2011-12, Kate Lehman emerged as one of the conference's top players this year to earn the first team nod, leading FHSU in scoring at 16.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.2 blocked shots per game. Lehman leads NCAA Division II in blocked shots and blocked shots per game with 109 for the season. She ranks third in the MIAA in scoring and fourth in rebounding entering the postseason. Lehman produced nine double-doubles in points and rebounds so far this season and reached double figures in scoring in 23 games and double figures in rebounds in 10 games. She also recorded four or more blocked shots in 19 games, with nine as her season and career high.

With Lehman being named as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, she was also named to the MIAA All-Defensive Team for the second straight year. Her 109 blocked shots sets a new single season record after she shattered the old mark last year with 96. She is already the career blocked shots leader at FHSU with 205 in just her sophomore season. She also pulls down 6.2 defensive rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the conference.

Edwards was a second team selection last year as Fort Hays State's leading scorer and rebounder and earns third team honors this year. She is averaging 13.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game entering the postseason, ranking 12th in scoring and sixth in rebounds. She has six double-doubles to her credit this year in points and rebounds. She has reached double figures in scoring 21 times this year.
