For the first time in school history the Wichita State women's basketball team has started Missouri Valley Conference play with a perfect 8-0 record.
Wichita State beat Illinois State 66-54 on Friday night to keep their umblemished record. The game was a rematch of last year when the Shockers lost to the Redbirds, thus falling to 7-1 on the Valley season.
Alex Harden was dominant for the Shockers especially in the second half. She finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds for Wichita State. Four different Shockers scored in double-digits against Illinois State: Jessica Diamond had 15, Jazimen Gordon had 13 and Darrice Fountaine finished with 10 points.
The Shockers battled with the Redbirds early and were only up 28-24 at the half. However Jody Adams' team started strong in the second half, slowly building up a 12 point lead by the 9 minute mark. The Shockers would stay in control through the end, coming out with a victory.
This is the first of a four-game homestand for Wichita State. This Sunday the Shockers will host Northern Iowa at 2:05.
