Malcolm Armstead hit a long 2-point basket with 3.8 seconds remaining in regulation which ended up being the game-winner for Wichita State. The Shockers (2-0) beat Virginia Commonwealth (1-1) 53-51 on Tuesday night.
Cleanthony Early led Wichita State in scoring with 13 points with Carl Hall recording a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Armstead was close behind with 11 points.
The Shockers were abysmal from the three-point line going just 3 of 19 from beyond the arc which equals a paltry 15.8%.
The difference for Wichita State was how well they played defense and how bad the Rams were from the free-throw line. V.C.U. missed two free throws at the very end of the game that would have tied the game and sent it into overtime. Overall the Rams were just 12-24 from the line.
