NASCAR’s worst kept secret became official on Tuesday morning as Joe Gibbs Racing announced the addition of Carl Edward to drive a fourth Sprint Cup Series car for the organization next season.

“It will be nice to be able to talk about this now, with all the work that’s gone into it,” said Edwards. “It’s obviously a huge day for me in my career.”

Edwards will drive the number 19 car in 2015 and will be sponsored by the technology company Arris for 17 races. Arris will also sponsor driver Daniel Suarez in the Nationwide, truck and NASCAR Mexico series.

Edwards announced back in July that he would not return to Roush Fenway Racing, the team with which he first broke into the Sprint Cup Series with back in 2004. Edwards has 23 career victories and has twice finished runner up for the Cup Championship, including in 2011 when he finished tied for first in points with Tony Stewart and lost the championship on a tie breaker.

“For 10 years I have worked as hard as I can to try to win championships and that’s been my goal,” said Edwards. “At this point in my career I thought a change might be something I need to reach that goal.”

No crew chief has been selected for the 19 team at this time.
