HAYS, Kansas -

The difference in Wednesday’s game between the Fort Hays State men and Central Oklahoma was a play lasting less than five seconds. In that time Wichita native Craig Nicholson drove the length of the floor for a game winning layup, which meant more than just an 80-79 victory over the Bronchos. With the win the Tigers secured a finish of no worse than fourth in the MIAA standing, giving FHSU a bye in next weekend’s conference tournament in Kansas City.

Nicholson lead Fort Hays with 25 points and nine rebounds, Dwayne Brunson added 11 points and 11 boards.

The Lady Tigers also picked up a huge 72-62 win over UCO. The FHSU women still have a chance at securing a first round bye in the MIAA tournament, after the victory moved them into a tie for fifth in the standings. Only the top four teams avoid a play in game next week.

Kate Edwards lead Fort Hays with 19 points and seven rebounds.
