There should be few surprises when the Fort Hays State men face Missouri Southern in the opening round of the NCAA Division II tournament. After all the two team have already met once this season.
Round one was in early January at Mo Southern, with the Tigers getting a 76-67 victory. But the Tigers also understand, they are both different teams then they were two months ago.
“There a really good team,” said junior Carson Konrade. “They just won the conference tournament, so they’re on a roll right now. But if we come out and do what we are supposed to do I think we will be alright. “
After all, the Tigers found the formula to beat the Lions already this season. But they are teams coming off different results in the league tournament, which Missouri Southern winning it and FHSU losing its first game.
“I know they like to get up and down in transition we just got to make sure we get back,” said sophomore Craig Nicholson. “Pretty much the same thing we did when we went to Missouri Southern, but we have to play a lot better than we have been lately.”
Controlling how fast or in this case how slow the game is played could be key according to head coach Mark Johnson.
“I think at their place we did a good job of slowing the temp down and getting it to where we needed,” said Johnson. “Just to getting it to more of a 70-60 score instead of instead of 90-100.”
Fort Hays’ game with Missouri Southern tips off on Saturday at noon. The game will be played at the Taylor center in Makato, Minnesota.
