FHSU women fall at Creighton
In its lone exhibition before kicking off the 2013-14 regular season campaign, the Fort Hays State University women's basketball team fell, 77-47, to Creighton on Monday evening.
The Tigers were hampered by hitting just 30.9 percent of their field goals, but showed bright spots on the night as Kate Lehman, Katelyn Edwards and Chelsea Mason hit double-digits in scoring.
Edwards led the team with 12 points, while Mason - a sophomore transfer from Kennesaw State University - and Lehman had 11 points. Edwards hit on 8-of-11 field goals while pulling down seven rebounds in 29 minutes, also team-highs. Lehman was second on the team with six rebounds in 27 minutes.
Tera Ingalsbe and Beth Bohuslaysky had four points in the contest as Bohuslavky added three rebounds in 28 minutes played.
Creighton, a team that has reached the Division I NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons, was led offensively by Marissa Janning's 21 points. Brianna Rollerson had 16 points and four blocks for the Bluejays.
Fort Hays State heads for Alva, Okla., next week on Wednesday, Nov. 13 for its season opener at Northwestern State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
