With their large amount of success in the Final Four run, it would seem that the basketball program would be making more money.
Instead, the team's expenses went up 16 percent to $5.4 million.
This is largely due to travel costs, such as as the Shockers' trips to Atlanta and Los Angeles. Another portion of the expenses was used for coaching post-season bonuses.
Also, the NCAA payouts are given to the conference, rather than the school. The Missouri Valley Conference will net more than $7.5 million from the run, but the school will only get about $480,000.
While this may seem like a bad thing, the athletic department says there is no way to measure how much money the national exposure will bring to the university through increased merchandise sales and television deals.
