Freshman Marcus Foster led the Wildcats with 20 points but #22 Kansas State was unable to get a road win in Ames, falling to #16 Iowa State 81-75.
The Wildcats rallied from down 11 in the second half to tie the game at 50. Later Will Spradling hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 66. But Shane Southwell and Foster were unable to hit from beyond the arc in the final minutes as Iowa State pulled away for the win. Spradling was unavailable as he fouled out with 23 seconds to play.
It was a close game in the first half with Kansas State down by just two with 2:25 left in the half. Iowa State then went on a 12-2 run in the final 2 and a half minutes to take a 46-34 lead at the break.
The Wildcats started the second half on a 9-0 run sparked by Thomas Gipson's first points of the game. Gipson only finished with 4 points on 7 shots in the game. Kansas State kept rallying to either tie the game or get back within a bucket but the 'Cats never regained the lead in the second half.
This is Kansas State's second straight loss in conference play. They are now 14-6, 4-3 in Big 12 play. Kansas State will host Texas Tech on Tuesday.
