Lubbock, TX -

If you know anything about Wichita State baseball, you know where Gene Stephenson started with the Shockers.

Getting $1,000 on a month-to-month contract as head coach,Gene accepted the challenge and built Wichita State baseball into what it is today.

A gorgeous stadium, fantastic facilities, a really top notch division one baseball program. But on a windy Friday night in Lubbock at the Spirit Ranch where he is being inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame, Gene Stephenson said what has been on his mind for quite some time.

"Now it's safe to say this OK," Stephenson said. "I never could say this before, but I will tell you this. I love that job and had so much passion for that job. I would have gladly paid them to do it. And now I'm telling you, if I would have said it they probably would have made me do it."

Saturday night is the actual induction ceremony for Gene Stephenson into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
