DENVER, Colorado -

So you know those silly commercials where NFL Football fans do all sorts of crazy things they think help their team win? Yeah I am that person and for me it’s the Chiefs’ red football pants. Let me explain.

I grew up in Kansas City and was in high school when Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith were terrorizing NFL offenses. I like this Chiefs team, more specifically, I like the way they play defense. It reminds me of when I was 16. But I don’t ever remember those great teams of the 90’s wearing the red pants. Maybe they did, but I do not remember it. I do remember the first time I noticed the red pants were back, and in my head it coincides with the downward slide of the team. It is probably complete gobbly goop. In my head that is what happened, and every time the Chiefs come out in red pants, I have bad feeling. The Chiefs wore red pants on Sunday night.

I mean it’s only the game of the century.

In reality, the difference in the game was Kansas City could never get pressure on a hobbled Peyton Manning and as a result, they never got the big play this team needs to win ball games. The offense also still has a ways to go in a short time if Kansas City wants to be a serious Super Bowl contender.

The good news is, they are close. The Chiefs only lost by 10 points to a team widely considered the best in the NFL and they held them to the lowest point total of the season. If you have told me all of those things at the beginning of the season, and KC is 9-1, I say where do I sign up?

Of course now I want more. And we can start with ditching the red pants.
