Winless streak? What winless streak? The Michigan International Speedway was one five tracks Jimmie Johnson had not collected at least won at. It was, before he was able to hold off pole sitter Kevin Harvick and pick up the win for the first time in 25 tries.

“It was a long time coming,” said crew chief Chad Knaus. “Obviously we enjoy coming up here to Michigan, and we've raced very well up here, and we haven't been able to close the deal on quite a few occasions, so coming in here very optimistic after what we did at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the way the company ran at Pocono, as well, so we felt like we had an opportunity.”

But perhaps bigger than ending the Michigan drought, however, is the fact Johnson picked up his third win of the season, and now leads the way in the victory column this season. With a little more than half of the year in the books, the three victories loom large in the Chase for the Championship post season race.

“The success that we've had as a team, kind of hitting our stride and getting to victory lane three times in the last four weeks,” said Johnson, “our teammates and their success, the company, and you look at our engines in our cars and what they're able to do, Rick gives us all the tools to go out there and do our jobs and to have everything so fast and so good, you want it to last forever.  We know that it won't, but it's just a good time to sit back and reflect and enjoy it.”

The win also marks career win number 69 for Johnson and in case you were wondering the four remaining tracks were Johnson has yet to win are Chicago, Homestead, Kentucky and Watkins Glen. Harvick finished second on Sunday, with Brad Keselowski, Paul Menard and Kasey Kahne rounding out the top five.

Kansas native Clint Bowyer continues to have steady runs as he looks for his first win of 2014, finishing 10th at MIS.

“Our car was really good all weekend long,” said Bowyer.  “It’s just tough right now to compete with that horsepower they’ve (Hendrick Motorsports) got right now.  That’s a pretty distinct advantage when you look at the results on that.  Just incredible.  That deal cycles, but it sure seems like its pretty unfair right now.”
