Joel Embiid may only be a freshman, but he's already making his presence felt for the University of Kansas as he blocked 10 shots last week, and scored in double figures in two of the three games Kansas played. Those numbers were good enough to earn the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award.
This is the first conference for the seven-foot freshman from Cameroon. Embiid set a school record when he had seven blocks against UTEP. The previous record was held by Nick Collison.
Cory Jefferson of Baylor was named the Big 12 Player of the Week.
Kansas next plays on Saturday at the University of Colorado.
