If Creighton should decide to depart the Missouri Valley Conference there are potential financial hits the school will suffer. Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin told Eyewitness Sports today via email that there are specific provisions in place in the conference's bylaws that explain the financial penalties. Those penalties are as follows:
24+ months notice, no penalty
12-23 months, a school forfeits half of its annual distribution (the distribution varies from year to year, but has been averaging about $280,000 per school per year)
0-12 months, the school forfeits all of its distribution
Elgin added in his email to me that it is all still speculation at this point and there is absolutely nothing official to report about any school leaving.
