Wichita State defeated Harding University, 88-47, at Charles Koch Arena on Sunday afternoon in its first exhibition game of the 2012-13 women's basketball season. Sophomore Alex Harden paced the Shockers with 14 points, and senior Chynna Turner led all Shockers with five rebounds.

The Shockers used pressure defense all afternoon and held the Lady Bisons to just 32.6 percent (14-43) from the field and 30.8 percent (4-13) from the three-point line in the game.

In the first half, senior Jazimen Gordon went a perfect 4-4 from the field and 1-3 from the free throw line to lead all scorers and Turner added eight points with a team-high four rebounds.

The WSU defense helped them go into halftime with a 43-25 lead as they held Harding to 29.6 percent (8-27) from the field and 40 percent (4-10) from behind the arc.

WSU began the second half with a 17-4 run to extend their lead to 60-29 after a steal from newcomer Alie Decker and a layup from Jasmine Jones with 13:27 left in the game. The Shockers went on a 10-4 run led by a layup by Harden and extended the lead to 83-41. Senior Jazimen Gordon added 10 points and helped put the ballgame away for WSU.

Shana Holmes led all Bisons with 15 points, shooting 7-14 from the field and 1-2 from the three-point line.

The Shockers will host Central Oklahoma on Nov. 4 in their final exhibition game.
