The Wichita Wings (5-6) defeated the Chicago Soul (4-9) 18-10 in their first ever meeting at Hartman Arena Saturday night. Wichita got 4 goals from team captain Freddy Moojen and goalkeeper Sanaldo came up big with 23 saves. Other contributions included goals from Tiguinho in addition to Miguel Ferrer and Andrew Hoxie each with a pair. With the win over the Soul, Wichita has swept their double header and have now won 4 of their last 5 games bringing them to fourth in the MISL standings.
Sanaldo started the game with a pair of saves to set the Wings up for their first goal of the night from Miguel Ferrer to make the score, 2-0. Chicago’s Carlos Munoz scored with 3:45 to go in the first quarter to tie up the score at 2 apiece. Freddy Moojen tapped the second goal of the night right before the end of the quarter to give the Wings the lead once more at 4-2.
The second quarter was full of action for the Wings courtesy of Moojen. He kicked off the second quarter with a low header and followed it up with a goal off a restart to complete his first hat trick of the year, putting the Wings up 8-2. Ferrer added to his night with a second goal off an assist from Moojen to extend the Wings lead by 8. Munoz scored his second goal of the night for the Soul off a restart with less than a minute to go, sending the Soul into halftime down 4-10.
Hoxie buried his second goal of the night for the Wings early in the final quarter to give them their biggest lead, 18-8. Aaron Nichols received a blue card for tripping and former Wings player, Chile, earned a yellow for misconduct to give Wichita a two minute power play advantage. Soul Goalkeeper, Jeffrey Richey received another yellow card for delay of game shortly after. Chicago scored at the two minute mark with a goal by Bato Radoncic to cut the lead, but it would do no good as Wichita walked away with an 18-10 win.
The Wings will travel to Milwaukee to face the Wave Monday, December 31 at 3:00 p.m. in US Cellular Arena.
