The Hutchinson women's basketball team made it to the NJCAA tournament semifinals. Their championship run however was cut short. Central Arizona College defeated the Lady Dragons 52-40.
The Vaqueras' Brea Edwards ran the offense. She posted 28 points for Central Arizona followed by Joymesia Howard with 11. Jamie Patrick was the only Lady Dragon in double digits with 10 points. Although both teams had low shooting percentages that is where a significant difference arose. In the first half Hutch only shot 14 percent compared to the Vaqueras 36 percent.
Central Arizona advanced to the NJCAA national championship game and will face Trinity Valley Community College on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m. The Lady Dragons will take on Gulf Coast State in the third place game at 5 p.m.
