Wichita State earned its first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, beating Oral Roberts 5-4 in Tulsa. This is the third straight time the Shockers have come away from Tulsa with a win.
Wichita State was in a 2-0 hole after the 4th inning but they got on the board in the top of the 5th. Mikel Mucha's sacrifice fly cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 1 in the 5th. Then in the 6th Erik Harbutz singled to right field, scoring Johnny Coy and Casey Gillaspie to give the Shockers their first lead of the game, and their first lead of the season.
Oral Roberts took the lead once again in the 7th but Gillaspie tied it up again in the 8th with an R.B.I. single scoring Tanner Dearman. Later in that frame Gillaspie would score on the fielder's choice.
Albert Minnis earns the win for the Shockers, pitching 2 innings and giving up 4 hits and striking out 2. Cale Elam started for Wichita State and went 5 innings with 2 earned runs and one strikeout. Elam received a no decision. T.J. McGreevey and Brandon Peterson combined to pitch the last two shut-out innings. McGreevey struck out 4 batters while Peterson sat down 1.
Wichita State is back at Eck Stadium this Friday for a four-game series against Delaware.
