Money. It drives the world economy. It drives NASCAR. To build a racecar, take it to the track hire the staff and driver, buy tires and gas, then run the race with out it. That's what makes sponsors so important, even for the richest owner.
On Wednesday two teams introduced new sponsors to the sport. At Earnhardt Ganassi, Cessna and it's parent company, will be joining Jamie McMurrary's team as a sponsor. And at Penske racing, Hertz will be joining the Nationwide program.
"Cessna is such a cool brand," saide McMurrary. "Obviously we fly every weekend, so what a fitting sponsor for our sport."
But there are still teams looking for some form of sponsorship, and from the small up and comers to major teams like Stewart Haas and Hendrick.
Even those that haven't announced new sponsors said they feel a shift in the economy, and getting companies to talk is easier than it has been in recent years.
"I think we've seen more Fortune 500 companies came into the sport at the end of '12 and into '13 then we had in '08 so that's a good sign," said team owner Rick Hendrick.
