So 2013 is already out to a better start for Clint Bowyer than 2012 did. A seventh place finish at Phoenix has the 15 car fifth in the standings two weeks in.
After everything that happened, it was a decent day," said Bowyer. "We got up there and got position. I thought we were going to have at least a top-five car."
NASCAR now heads to Las Vegas, a so-so track for Bowyer. In seven starts he has one top five and three top tens. But since moving over to Michael Waltrip Racing, Bowyer has improved at a lot of tracks that he used to no perform at. And he is excited about his car this weekend.
"We tested this 5-Hour ENERGY Toyota in Charlotte back in January and we were so fast right off the truck that I told the crew, ‘We’re good! Let’s load it back up and call it a day.’ We were fast as soon as we unloaded," said Bowyer. I felt like we left off just where we did at the end of last season. Unfortunately they don’t always listen to me (laughs). They made us stay there and try new things and we just kept working on it. I’m hoping that the same thing happens this weekend - unload fast and just keep fine tuning to get better for the race.”
