While Clint Bowyer didn't tame the monster, he did have a pretty good run at Dover. The 33 team raced from 27th to eighth. It was Bowyer's 11th top ten of the season.
"It was a really strong run for the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper team, especially starting deep in the field." said Bowyer. "Shane (Wilson, crew chief) called a good race and the pit crew was awesome today. I think we gained positions on every pit stop. I just couldn't get by those guys in the end."
This is a big week for Bowyer. He heads back to Kansas, his home track, where he hopes to not only get that elusive Sprint Cup win in front of the home town crowd. He is also expected on Friday to announce that he is leaving Richard Childress Racing, for Michael Waltrip racing.
Bowyer freely admits, there is a lot of pressure on him this week. "It's just a long week because that's where I'm from. A lot of my personal and dirt team sponsors are based in that area too. It's a long busy week and it's important to reach out and help all those people that support us throughout the season."
It might show in his results as well. Bowyer has an average finish of 12th at Kansas, with just on top five and two top tens in six Sprint Cup starts. Bowyer did win the truck race the last time NASCAR visited the Land of Oz. The Cup race, like many this season, came down to fuel mileage, which ruined Bowyers chance of a top 10 finish.
"You're bound to come down to fuel mileage when you're at those big tracks though. It's just the nature of the beast. There's not much you can do about it."
