Bowyer on the Backstretch |
It's not quite time for Clint Bowyer to hit the panic button, but he might want to have it close by. With just six races til the Chase for the Championship starts, the 33 finds itself in 12th place in the points. But he's on the outside of the chase looking in, thanks to the new points rules.
The Brickyard was a rough race for alot of good cars. With fuel mileage deciding many fates, it pit Bowyer 13th. Not bad, but not what this team needs the most right now, which is a win.
"Our No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet was actually strong," said Bowyer. "We were better than a 13th-place showing. It's just so hard to pass here and track position means everything. We just can't seem to catch a break in these fuel mileage races."
Expect more of the same this weekend, as NASCAR heads to Pocono. There are alot of similarities between Indy and the Tricky Triangle. Bowyer is pretty good at Pocono though, despite his recent finishes. When NASCAR was there just 7 weeks ago, Bowyer finished 16th. But he says the struggles started long before they got to Pennsylvania.
"It was two weeks before Pocono in June that we started struggling," said Bowyer. "We're working on it. It's where we need to improve. Pocono is typically a good track for me and we have to get back to that and get a good finish. We've led laps there and I've felt like that's a track that we can win at. Last time we were there in June, we were way off. We're not going to bring that same package back this time."
