Denny Hamlin has to feel like he hit the crew chief lottery over the off-season. Not that he didn't have a good crew choef before. Least we forget that the #11 team was one race away from the title in 2010. But how often do you get a chance to pick up the defending Sprint Cup crew chief? It just never happens.
Hamlin had what he himself calls a bad season in 2011. Other drivers wish they could be so luck to have the 11 teams bad year. Hamlin won a race and finished ninth in the points. But for a team that came into the year as the sexy pick to knock off five time champ Jimmie Johnson, ninth was a disappointment.
Hamlin and Grubb are a lot alike and they appear to have a lot in common. So the question has to be, will this "dream team" actually work? On paper this has all the makings of being a very successful pairing.
