Some people may be surprised to see that I have Kasey Kahne not only in the Chase, but in the top 10. But here's the thing about Kahne he had always had the talent. He just hasn't had a lot of stability since the early days of his time at Evenham Motorsports.
Now he jumps into the 5 car at Hendrick Motorsports and unlike most drivers with new teams, he gets to bring his crew chief with him. Kahne and Kenny Francis have shown they can be winners and they can make the chase, some times in not so good equipment and under some tough circumstances.
Kahne also finished last season on a roll, with a third a seventh and a victory at the second to the last race of the season in Phoenix. And a lot of times in this sport, the way you finish a season can help set the tone on how you start the next season.
The only negative I see is that the 5 car has not run well lately, with a pretty good driver in Mark Martin driving it. And Hendrick has really struggled to get all 4 of his cars running at the top of the field. The last time they all ran in the top 15 in points was 2007 (Jimmie Johnson won the points, with Jeff Gordon second, Kyle Busch 5th and Casey Mears 15th).
If Mr. Hendrick can figure out how to get four cars to run up front at the same time, the 5 car will be a chase contender.
