Motoring into Michigan (August 17, 2012) |
NASCAR heads to the home of horse power this weekend Detroit, Michigan. Okay, technically it's Brooklyn, but its close enough that this a big deal for all the manufactures, as they are racing in the shadow of the big 3.
The track went through a repaving before the June race and it had mixed results.
"There was virtually no passing, and there was only one groove," said Kevin Harvick.
Kasey Kahne agreed, but has hope for this weekend's return, "The repaving made the groove a lot narrower. When it gets wider again, it will be a great race with a lot of speed and a lot of room to drive."
Last time NASCAR was at MIS, fan favorite Dale Earnhardt, Jr. returned to victory lane, and he is obviously a fan of the track, before and after.
"I think over time the surface will age, and we'll get back to widening up the surface quite a bit. It has the characteristics as far as the way the corners are banked and the way the corners are laid out to widen back out again and be the great racetrack it's always been," said Junior. "So I really enjoy it. Even had I not won any races there, it's just a really fun track."
Other drivers who can wheel it around Michigan include Greg Biffle, Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon, all of which have multiple wins in Motor City.
