NASCAR heads to it's "wild card" race in the Chase. But for Kansas native Clint Bowyer, Talladega has been anything but wild. He has won each of the last two fall races in Alabama. And you have to think he is one of the favorites again.
"This is a big weekend I think for our sport, for our Chase and everybody involved in it," said Bowyer. "This can be a game changer. This is one of the tracks that can separate somebody and possibly win you a championship."
With everyone in the chase running so well, one bad race can be their chase. Just ask Jeff Gordon. So when you have won the last two races at one of the series most predictable tracks, you can help but be confident coming in.
"I love racing here. It's so much fun," said Bowyer. "That's such a thrill to be able to go around there and know that the storm is brewing and all hell is fixing to break loose and you're fixing to be a part of it. It's a pretty neat situation to be in."
But before you hand the trophy to Bowyer keep in mind, there are plenty of chasers who have had success at Talladega. Brad Keseloswki, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon all have multiple wins in Alabama. Kevin Harvick has also won at 'dega.
“We’re looking at it as an opportunity to gain some points and positions," said Stewart. "Every time you’re at Talladega you try to take care of yourself and your equipment by not getting yourself in compromising positions that are going to take you out of an opportunity to get you to the end of the race. For me, it’s no different whether the race is in April during the regular season or in October when I’m in the Chase.”
Other active drivers who won at Talladega include Kyle Busch and Bobby Labonte.
