Yes Southern Cal is ranked number four in the nation and Wichita State is not ranked. But both teams are in the same situation when they take the court at Gregory Gym on the University of Texas campus on Friday. Win and advance to the volleyball version of the Elite Eight, lose and the season is over.

The Lady Shockers are no stranger to ranked teams. WSU has played three ranked teams this season and beaten two. Wichita State beat then #24 Colorado State back on August 30th 3-1, they played #21 Creighton twice and lost twice (2-3, 0-3). Most recently they beat #20 Kansas 3-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Of course none of those schools are at the level of USC.
The Lady Trojans are making their 29th appearance in the NCAA tournament. USC has won three national titles and made nine appearances in the final four. WSU has only made seven total NCAA appearances and this is WSU's first ever apperence in the Sweet 16.
WSU is 2-2 against the PAC-12 under head coach Chris Lamb, though this will mark the first meeting with USC.
The Lady Shocks are lead Ashley Andrade, who broke a school record for kills in the NCAA with 23 against Arkansas in the opening round. She also tied a school record for assists with nine against Kansas in the second round. Andrade was named national player of the week by College Volleyball Updat for her effort .
WSU will also need strong efforts from Chelsey Feekin who set a school record for assists in the NCAA against Arkansas with 54 and Elisabeth Field who set a record for hitting percentage against Kansas.
The Trojans are lead by Samantha Bricio who averages 4.5 kills per set, Natalie Hagglund and her 5 digs per set and Hayley Crone's 10.97 assists per set.
