There was cheering from the Texas contingent when Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy last night, in another example of the blurring lines of journalism.

I know the good old days weren’t always so good, but that would have never happened twenty years ago. For the second year in a row a quarterback from Texas— that the University of Texas didn’t pursue—has won a Heisman.

I wonder how that sits with the QB challenged folks in Austin? After a season when Manziel wasn’t allowed to speak to the media, the freshman certainly made up for it in New York. He was bright, witty and humble. His coach, Kevin Sumlin, said that no moment was too big for his quarterback and he proved that this weekend.

It turns out that Manziel won comfortably, but one wonders if he even would have been in New York if his defense hadn’t come up with a late goal line interception to preserve the win at Alabama. Such is the thin line between this year’s finalists.

Collin Klein seemed at peace with the voting, reiterating that he had done ‘everything humanly possible' to win the award. Visibly tired after his three city in three day tour, Klein seemed anxious to get back to Kansas, where preparations for Oregon start today.

Kansas State hasn’t won a bowl game since the 2002 Holiday against Arizona State and, in the Ducks, they’re facing a ‘better Baylor’. As much as Klein has already done for Kansas State football, he knows his legacy is still incomplete.
