Quint Kessenich's early-season questions and answers

After a wild first couple of weeks in men's lacrosse, things have tightened up a bit — though not as tight as Notre Dame's defense under coordinator Gerry Byrne.

What else have we found out? Maryland's Niko Amato has solidified his spot as one of the best goalies in the nation, and Cornell's Rob Pannell is a Big Red machine.

But many questions remain. Will the Johns Hopkins midfield find its scoring touch? Can Loyola hang with the nation's best?

Notre Dame — The Fighting Irish defense is Fort Knox, limiting Duke (three) and Penn State (four) to a combined seven goals. The system, orchestrated by defensive coordinator Gerry Byrne, is based on protecting the paint, switching and sliding without matchup concerns, and taking away space for dodgers.
