| RK | 247* | PLAYER | The Recruiting Buzz | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
7 | Derrick Henry RB 6-2 241 Yulee | Enrolled at Alabama, Henry became the nation's all-time career rushing leader this season, surpassing 11,000 yards over his four-year career. The Hornets fell one game shy of reaching the state title game, a feat impossible to fathom for Yulee without Henry. He carried this team on his back and now heads to Tuscaloosa to try and prove all the naysayers wrong. They say he can't be a college football running back. We're willing to wager. Played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where he met Ken "Sugarland Express" Hall, whose 59-year-old record Henry broke this season. |
2 | Vernon Hargreaves III CB 5-10, 177 Tampa Wharton | Signed with Florida. His talent is as limit-less as his offer list. One of the most gifted athletes in the country, Hargreaves turns out big plays on a consistent basis. His leaping ability, timing and sheer cover skills make him the toughest corner around. He leads a recruiting haul of defensive backs for the Gators that is likely the best in the school's history with Jacksonville Trinity Chistian CB Nick Washington, Bushnell South Sumter safety Keanu Neal and Orlando Dr. Phillips safety Marcell Harris joining the fray. Under Armour All-American. |
3 | Matthew Thomas LB 6-3, 200 Miami Booker T Washington | Signed with FSU over Miami, Alabama and Georgia. His athleticism as an outside attacker gives him a distinct advantage over slower offensive blockers. Also one of the best coverage linebackers in the nation with albatross arms that help him snag passes out of the air across the middle. Under Armour All-American. FSU is hoping to snag both Thomas and his Booker T. teammate OL Denver Kirkland. |
29 | Isaiah Jones WR 6-3, 200 Milton | Committed to Florida State. Jones slowly snuck up the list on recruiting boards nationwide this season. The big-bodied receiver gives Alex Montgomery and Stacy Coley a run for top WR in the state. Has great hands and ability to use his big frame against even the biggest of DBs. A hidden gem in the Panhandle, but the secret is out. He'll join an already deep and talented pool of receivers that some consider to be the best in college football right now at FSU. |
1 | Laremy Tunsil OT 6-5, 293 Lake City Columbia | Signed with Ole Miss after a late push from the Rebels. Alabama and Georgia were the frontrunners. Though Tunsil had a very unimpressive showing at the Nike Football Training Camp (NFTC) in Orlando last April, most analysts chalked it up to a bad day and still consider Tunsil one of the top offensive linemen in the nation. U.S. Army All-American. |
155 | Alex Montgomery WR 6-2, 200 Weston Cypress Bay | Committed to Kentucky. Montgomery's showing inthe state championship loss to Apopka was one of legend. Three of the top four receivers in the state coming out of Broward County this season in Montgomery, Coley and Jordan Cunningham. Montgomery runs good routes, has incredible hands and even better balance, Kentucky, NC State, Wake Forest and yet-to-offer USF, |
4 | Mackensie Alexander CB 5-11, 175 Immokalee | Gifted athlete racked up 154 tackles and 5 INTs during his senior season as Immokalee reached the state Class 5A title game. His crazy recruiting trail has been confusing at times. Add to the scenario the dangling of offers at his twin brother Mackenroe, and it's compounded the frustration of the Alexanders. He decommitted from Tennessee early and is currenlty looking at Auburn, Mississippi State, Clemson and Rutgers with National Signing Day just three days away. U.S. Army All-American. |
11 | Stacy Coley WR 6-0, 173 Oakland Park Northeast | Committed to Miami. FSU coach Jimbo Fisher paid him a home visit on Saturday morning. Continuously draws oohs and ahhs with his abilities to get open and is most impressive with what he does after the catch. Uses blockers as well as a running back and speed is very deceptive, especially when turning up field. Under Armour All-American. |
26 | Nick Washington S 6-0, 182 Jacksonville Trinity Christian | Committed to Florida. Washington, the brother of Orlando Jones DE Devin Washington, is probably the best cover safety in the state. His 4.48 speed gives him a tremendous break on the ball. A gifted kick returner and receiver, Washington also spent time as QB at Trinity. U.S. Army All-American. |
23 | Keanu Neal S 6-0, 204 Bushnell South Sumter | Committed to Florida. When it comes to athletes, there may not be a better specimen in the entire state than Neal. Keke, as they call him, could even wind up a college linebacker, but he's tremendous in the open field. Could use a bit more fine-tuning on his coverage skills, but when it comes to moving up in the box, there are none better. Probably the biggest hitter of the state's DBs with apologies to Marcell Harris. Under Armour All-American. |
6 | Kelvin Taylor RB 5-11, 200 Belle Glade Glades Day | Committed to Florida. The son of former UF star and NFL veteran Fred Taylor has been impressive in racking up 10,000-plus yards since hitting the varsity level as an 8th-grader. The most impressive thing about Taylor, however, is that he has averaged 33 carries a game … and is still healthy as an ox. They say he's small, but he certainly doesn't play that way. He'll pound the middle or bounce outside. He's also quicker to the corner than most give him credit for. Under Armour All-American. |
9 | Leon McQuay III S 6-2, 180 Seffner Armwood | Committed to Southern Cal. One of the more unique characters of this high school football season, McQuay enjoys his time in the recording studio as much as he does on the football field. The music scene in L.A. has as much to do with his USC choice as did anything else, he said. Formed a formidable defensive secondary with UF commit Alvin Bailey for Armwood. Under Armour All-American. |
13 | Ryan Green RB 5-9, 190 St. Petersburg Catholic | Committed to Florida State. Green missed most of his senior season after deciding to have surgery on a torn labrum after the first game. He did heal in time to get on the basketball court for the SPC hoops season. Should likely help fill in some depth right away at FSU. The Seminoles are still trying to land another RB in this 2013 class. Under Armour All-American. |
38 | Jordan Cunningham WR 6-1, 185 Fort Lauderdale University | Committed to Stanford. Cunningham is another player whose stock jumped up after an impressive state championship performance in the Suns win over Madison Country. Cunningham hauled in a nifty one-handed catch of highlight-reel quality after he had left the game with an injured knee. Turns out his knee would require surgery on a torn MCL after the season and he missed his chance to play in the Under Armour All-American Game. |
34 | Taj Williams WR 6-4, 170 Tallahassee Lincoln | He looks to have his choices narrowed to Louisville and Auburn. Another player whose stock skyrocketed during the state playoffs. He single-handedly carried Lincoln past Oviedo in the state semifinals with spectacular catch after catch. Has tremendous hands and his ability to catch balls that appear to be destined for the turf is uncanny. Also uses his athleticism and speed to gain separation. |
20 | Alex Collins RB 5-10, 185 South Plantation | Committed to Arkansas but apparently has not signed his letter of intent. Decommitted from Miami in October and many had him penciled in as a future Seminole, but that didn't happen. One of the top backs in a loaded Broward/Plam Beach two-county area that includes Kelvin Taylor, Greg Bryant and Matthew Dayes, among numerous others. |
22 | Tarean Folston RB 5-9, 185 Cocoa | Committed to Notre Dame. Had more than 20 offers. Cocoa had Booker T. Washington in its way the past two seasons, or the Tigers may have gotten Folston back into the state title game in Class 3A. The versatile athlete played defensive back at the Under Armour All-American Game. |
27 | Alvin Bailey ATH 5-11, 170 Seffner Armwood | Committed to Florida. Just give hin the ball. Even though Bailey had a tough senior season, he is still one of the most exciting players to watch of the entire state. Fans at Armwood games wait in anticipation hoping Bailey will touch the ball because you never know when he'll go the distance. Picked the Gators after the Armwood opener Sept. 1. Helped Armwood to two straight state-title game appearances before Hawks missed out this year. Under Armour All-American. |
206 | Matt Milano S 6-0, 190 Orlando Dr. Phillips | Committed to Boston College. There may not be a better fundamental tackler in the state than Milano and he tracks ball carriers down with a vengeance. He'll never take a play off and if the ball is moving away from his side of the field, he'll still be in on the play. Had four interceptions this season for the state's top-ranked Class 8A team that fell one game shy of a second state-championship game appearance in three years. Tough call over Harris here, but Milano made more plays this season. |
14 | Marcell Harris S 6-1, 213 Orlando Dr. Phillips | Signed with Florida. Gives future teammate Keanu Neal a run for the biggest hitter among state DBs, Harris missed DP's final five games with a knee injury. It's tough to give Milano the nod over Harris, since opposing QBs steered clear of his area, but Harris, too, should have as much of an impact at the next level as anyone ranked ahead of him. He has a quick break and deceptive speed, with a tremendous ability to cover ground from center field. Did not play in Under Armour All-American Game as a precaution following knee surgery. |
37 | Mike Heuerman TE 6-3, 220 Naples Barron Collier | Committed to Notre Dame. Many thought he was destined to follow his brother Jeff to Ohio State, but Mike will be a Golden Domer and plans to enroll early. Picked the Irish over FSU, UM, LSU and Michigan State. Has good hands and athletic ability with speed to turn it up field once he gets in space. He is the best blocking tight end in the state and his skills on the line of scrimmage will bode well for him at the next level and perhaps beyond. |
86 | George Williams LB 6-0, 220 Hialeah | Committed to Louisiana-Lafayette. Williams wasn't even on the top 200 radar for most recruiting services last spring, but he piled up the offers with his progression. One of the most acitve linebackers in the state, Williams flat gets after it on the field. Academics scared many schools away, but if he can focus in the classroom, the Ragin Cajuns are going to love this kid. |
110 | Janarion Grant ATH 5-11, 170 Dade City Pasco | Committed to Rutgers. One of the most gifted athletes in the entire state. Another player whose struggles academically caused some to back off, if Grant does his work in the classroom, he's going to be a real treat for the Scarlet Kinghts fans. You can't coach the kind of natural abilities Grant has and while at Pasco he displayed them on both sides of the ball. He could blossom as one of the top players in the Big Ten, but he has to focus on the studies. |
58 | Richard Benjamin WR 6-1, 170 Tampa Bay Tech | Another player whose natural ability is uncanny. He's gifted on both sides of the ball and may even play both offense and defense for Charlie Strong at Louisville. In the FACA North-South All-Star in Decmeber, Benjamin told an opposing receiver he was going to intercept the ball from him on the next play and did just that, his third pick of that game. |
8 | DeMarcus Walker DE 6-4, 255 Jacksonville Sandalwood | Committed to Floirda State. Once committed to Alabama, Walker created a stir by following newly hired FSU assistant Jeremy Pruitt to Tallahassee after Pruitt's final game, the BCS Championship, as an assistant at Alabama. The big man with the soft hands often lined up at H-back or tight end for Sandalwood, and if he's spread out wide, he's no decoy. You better cover him up. But the bread-and-butter for this stellar athlete is on the end and he comes hard with his strength and athleticism. Had 20 tackles for loss and 16 sacks as senior. Under Armour All-American. |
21 | Quinton Powell LB 6-3, 201 Daytona Beach Mainland | Decommitted from Florida but is still considering the Gators, as well as Southern Cal, where good friend and former Mainland teammate Leonard Williams was the Pac-12 defensive freshman player of the year this past season. He's quick, can deliver in coverage or on the rush and eludes blockers with quick hips and strong, long arms. Led team back to Class 6a semifinals this season. Under Armour All-American. |
5 | Joey Bosa DE 6-4, 265 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas | Committed to Ohio State. Many think Bosa may well be the best college prospect in all of South Florida. The kingpin of a defense that had a tremendous season, including knocking off the naiton's top team Manatee in making it to the Class 7A state title game. Has good quickness and is as strong and athletic a specimen as you will find at 265 pounds. The only knock against Bosa is that he has a habit of disappearing for stretches in games. Also can work on his on field temperment. Was kicked out of two games this past season. Under Armour All-American. |
10 | Greg Bryant RB 5-10, 200 Delray Beach American Heritage | Committed to Notre Dame. Decommitted early from Oklahoma. Many argue Bryant will be the better college running back between he and Derrick Henry and Kelvin Taylor, but he got bounced around a bit in the U.A. Army All-American Bowl. He had a better junior season, helping Heritage to the state title a year ago. He didn't quite have the beef up front he did last season, although big Rod Johnson, a Gators commit, was there. |
49 | Rashard Robinson CB 6-2, 163 Pompano Blanche Ely | Committed to LSU. He had been leaning to the Bayou Bengals for quite some time, but wanted to make sure his mother could see Baton Rouge and all LSU had to offer before committing to be so far from home. Will join former teammate Avery Johnson at LSU next year, after Johnson finishes a semester at Hargrave Military prep school. |
117 | Jacky Marcellus ATH 5-8, 175 Immokalee | Committed to West Virginia. They like playmakers up in Mountaineer country, and they've got themselves a dandy in Marcellus. Of all the prospects on this loaded Immokalee team, Marcellus is the most impressive senior. He was hurt and missed the state title game, although he had to be restrainend from runing on the field several times. He was in street clothes the first half, but changed into his gear at halftime. He still was not cleared to play, but you have to love his enthusiasm. |
15 | Ahmad Fulwood WR 6-4, 200 Jacksonville Bishop Kenny | Committed to Florida. Has long been consdiered one of the state's best and the Gators are hoping a big-framed, strong receiver like Fulwood is the first of many as UF tries to build a receiving corps that has been lacking in recent years. Fullwood does more than just catch the ball as coaches love his intangibles, like downfield blocking. He'll finally give Gatros' QBs something to throw to down the field and in jump-ball situations. Had 45 catches for 709 yards and 12 TDs as a senior. |
24 | Tony Stevens WR 6-3, 175 Orlando Evans | Committed to Auburn after decommitting from Florida State and then decommitting from Texs A&M. Had a tremendous senior season, during which he also showed great skills as a safety on defense. Stevens can go deep man, and he spreads the field nicely, making defensive backs nervous to get in too tight. He's excellent in the air and does not lose many jump-balls. |
32 | Eddie Jackson ATH 6-1, 175 Fort Lauderdale Boyd Anderson | Committed to Alabama. Jackson came out of nowhere this past season to jump right onto the radar of 'Bama coach Nick Saban. He had 32 catches for 655 yards receiving and can spread the field to the tune of almost 21 yards per catch. Also had 66 tackles and four interceptions as a corner. Scored 12 total touchdowns. He's one of the fastest players in the state and clocked a 4.38-second 40 time. |
30 | Matt Dayes RB 5-9, 195 Weston Cypress Bay | Committed to NC State. Dayes rain for more than 1,800 yards and had 27 TDs as a senior in helping Cypress Bay into the Florida Class 8A state title game. He had an amazing state final in a losing cause with 170 yards and four touchdowns in a 53-50 thriller against Apopka. Briefly appeared to have flipped to Vanderbilt but looks like he'll be sticking with the Wolfpack. |
18 | Artie Burns CB 6-1, 180 Miami Northwestern | Committed to Miami. Another critical commitment to the 2013 class for UM as the Hurricanes try to show that even though there is a cloud hovering over the program, all is not gloom and doom for the proud program. Burns joins fellow townie Jamal Carter. The 'Canes, however, have some work to do locally and they only have 13 commits three days from National Signing Day. Uner Armour All-American. |
12 | Daniel McMillian LB 6-2, 220 Jacksonville First Coast | Committed to Florida. The quiet leader of a dominating First Coast linebacking crew that also has senior Tyrell Lyons — headed to FSU — and sophomore Sherrod Pittman. Led the Bucs this past season with 97 tackles, 3 picks and 2 fumble recoveries. U.S. Army All-American. |
36 | Jamal Carter S 6-1, 190 Miami Southridge | Committed to Miami. Sticking with the Canes like fellow townie Artie Burns. It looked as if Burns and Carter would help lure some other Miiami-Dade players with them to the U during this recruiting season, but so far that has not been the case and they remain the only two local commits. The 'Canes also only have three in-staters, with ATH Ray Lewis III of Lake Mary Prep being the other. |
62 | Deadrin Senat DT 6-1, 311 Immokalee | Committed to USF after decommitting from Louisville and FSU. Had Maintained Seminoles were still his top choice for quite some time. FSU, however, appeared to back off and along came Charlie Strong. But then along came Willie Taggart and snatched the big fella back to the Gulf Coast. He's a little short for the trenches, but uses his center of gravity well and has quick feet to help him get around blockers and to the ball. Indians second leading tackler with 89 stops and had 3 sacks. |
70 | Jordan Leggett TE 6-5, 205 Navarre | Committed to Clemson. Another gem in the Panhandle that apparently has become a favorite area of the Clemson coaching staff. He's tall, but light-weighted for TE and will probably be used more as and extra receiver spread out when the Tigers are in passing situations. In the past two seasons he has had 96 receptions for almost 1,600 yards and 11 touchdowns. |
30 | Jordan Sherit DE 6-3, 225 Tampa Hillsborough | Committed to Florida. Joins two other Team Tampa mates from the summer 7-on-7 circuit, Sherit is a strong, athletic end who forms a formidable defensive front with teammate Nigel Harris, who is No. 94. His commitment to Florida, along with Vernon Hargreaves, likely went a long way in helping Alvin Bailey pick UF. |
28 | Jay-nard Bostwick DE 6-4, 270 Port St. Lucie West Centennial | Committe to Florida. Late recruiting efforts by Florida and Miami made for an interesting final few weeks for Bostwick, whose academics were questionable. Has tons of offers and was once considering Oregon, but looks like he will remain in-state for his college career. |
41 | Nick Internicola LB 6-4, 220 Fort Lauderdale University | Committed to Rutgers. Big, strong athletic linebacker who also carries strong leadership skills and fits a Rutgers, Jersey-type work ethic to a T. He had 66 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and led unbeaten, state-champion University School in sacks with 6.5. Picked Rutgers over Boston College, Cincinnati, USF and West Virginia. |
41 | Skai Moore LB 6-3, 215 Fort Lauderdale University | Committed to South Carolina over Rutgers and Vanderbilt. Had 15 offers in all The athletic Moore led the Class 3A state champions in tackles as a senior with 103, including 22 tackles for loss and six sacks. Had 70 tackles and 18 tackles for loss as a junior. |
59 | Ro'Derrick Hoskins LB 6-4, 220 Orlando Evans | Committed to Florida State. The athletic Hoskins was once a wide receiver at Evans, but congestion on offense caused coach Chip Gierke to take a look at him on defense and the result was amazing. Hoskins athleticism and length, both in height and wingspan, only gives him more advantage when taking on running backs across the middle. Made last-minute visit to Auburn, where teammates Tony Stevens and Dominic Walker are committed, so he could be leaning toward a flip, as well. Offense-Defense All-American. |
124 | James Clark WR 5-11, 165 New Smyrna Beach | Committed to Ohio State. Clark is seeing the benefits of holding off on his recruiting process until after his senior season. He's been one of the hottest targets in the country this month and with the likes of Urban Myer, Will Muschamp and others coming through his revolving front door, it has made for a pretty exciting January at the Clark household. Final three were Ohio State, Florida and Clemson. A very personable young man, Clark is also a good student. |
25 | Denver Kirkland OT 6-5, 330 Miami Booker T. Washington | Committed to Arkanas. After the drama created when Miami pulled his scholarship offer last week, most people are familiar with Denver Kirkland by now. He met with UM assistant coaches on Saturday (Feb. 2) to try and sort things out, but during the meeting told UM he would be going in a different direction. Picked Hogs over FSU. Under Armour All-American |
79 | Corey Vereen DE 6-3, 220 Winter Garden West Orange | Committed to Tennessee. You won't see Vereen doing much in the way of a sack dance or getting to carried away with himself on the field, but he has plenty of opportunites to do so. Set school record for sacks last season at 16 and followed that up with 15 more his senior campaign. Carries himself in a very respectful fashion and lets his abilities do the talking. He's all business and a fine student, as well. |
48 | JoJo Kemp RB 5-10, 190 DeLand | Committed to Kentucky. Kemp saw his stock rise after a 200-plus yardage game on ESPN2 at midseason. He decommitted from USF just before the contest in a move that likely benefitted his recruiting process. USF was still in the picture late, but Kentucky won out with the new staff headed up by Mark Stoops. Kemp ran for more than 1,400 yards and had 23 touchdown his senior season. His ability to catch the football will bode well for the Wildcats in their new spread attack. |
49 | A.J. Turman RB 6-0, 205 Orlando Boone | Committed to Georgia. Turman's 200-plus yards performance and game-winning touchdown in overtime against West Orange showed the toughness and skill this big back has been bringing to the table since becoming a starter as a freshman. Ran for almost 5,000 yards in his career. He's been a very consistent performers throughout his high school career. |
50 | Kermit Whitfield ATH 5-8, 170 Orlando Jones | Committed to Florida State. People can't wait to see this little speedster returning kicks for the Seminoles. He'll also team with cousin Marvin Bracy and fellow FSU freshman Ronald Darby on the FSU track team next season. But, Kermit reminds us, he's a football player who just happens to run track. He also doesn't like to be called a kick-return specialist, but a wide receiver and he'll be hoping to break into the rotation of one of the best receiving corps in the nation. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis All-American. |
61 | Ryne Rankin LB 6-1, 225 Orlando East River | Enrolled at Georgia. The crazy, hard-hitting, wild-boar hunting Rankin can't wait to get to college and start knockin heads. He enrolled early at UGa. Rankin, whom we've nicknamed The Razor for the way he plays and the hogs he hunts, is old school all the way. He's a Dick Butkus type in a smaller shell and he'll be a favortie for sure of head coach Mark Richt. Averaged about 11 tackles per game over course of entire prep career. |
52 | Freddie Stevenson LB 6-1, 220 Bartow | Committed to Florida State. Stevenson is part of a tremendous haul at linebacker in this recruiting class for FSU. He joins First Coast's Tyrell Lyons, Evans' Ro'Derrick Hoskins and Virginia product A.J. Levenberry Jr. He averaged 8 tackles per game and had four sacks this past season. |
61 | Jeff Badet LB 5-11, 170 Orlando Freedom | Committed to Kentucky. Badet's in-your-face talk and take-that walk will give the Wildcats receivers a bit of a bite. He likes to speak his mind and back it up by his play on the field. He 63 catches for 881 yards as a senior. He also carried the ball 28 times from off the end and scored six TDs, piling up 328 rushing yards. He had 10 TDs in the air. Also a dangerous return man. Central Florida All-Star. |
46 | Reggie Davis WR 6-1, 160 Tallahassee Lincoln | Committed to Georgia. 'Noles keep letting them get away out of the hometown, but if FSU needed WRs, they'd have hauled in this pass catcher. FSU, however, is stacked with receivers, as well as slot types with Kermit coming in, so Davis will head for Athens. He's been a nice bookend compliment at Lincoln to partner Taj Williams and they helped lead Lincoln to a runner-up finish in the Florida Class 7A state title game. |
53 | John O'Korn QB 6-3, 210 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas | Committed to Houston. Solidified his rise to the top as the state's best quarterback prospect with a near impeccable state championship game performance against Lincoln. On the year he threw for 2,552 yards and 22 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. He can also turn it up field and rushed for 571 yards this past season. Threw for career-high 339 yards and three TDs, and added a 51-yard TD run in state title game that had coaches calling on him late, but he stiuck with his Houston commitment. |
54 | Monty Nelson DT 6-2, 310 Plantation | Committed to NC State. A virtual secret heading into the season, Nelson finally emerged as one of the top defenisve linemen in the state. He's athletic and extremely strong. He fights off double-teams with sheer brute and he can get upfield if a play gets past him. Nelson also has a burst off the line seldom see from a D-tackle. |
54 | Stafon McCray RB 6-0, 200 Kissimmee Osceola | Committed to USF. Rushed for more than 1,800 yards and 22 touchdowns during senior campaign in which he helped lead the Kowboys to a 13-0 mark before they ran into Tallahassee Lincoln in the Florida Class 7A state semifinals. He's a big back with good speed. He was Osceola's battering ram for the past three season and can take a licking. |
35 | Keith Bryant DT 6-2, 305 Delray Beach Atlantic | He's down to FSU, SOuth Carolina or Miami after decommitting from the Hurricanes in December. He had 90 tackles and 12 sacks during his senior season. Bryant is another one of those big-but-athletic types who can fight off blockers and get to the ball. |
56 | Kyle Shortridge DT 6-2, 270 Loxahatchee Seminole Ridge | Committed to Louisville. Shortridge comes with the full package. He's got that crazy football edge about him with the wild hair and even wilder approach to getting past offensive linemen. One of the most athletic DTs in this class. He'll spin and "swim," anything to get past blockers and he's very active on the D-line. Had 17 tackles for loss and 13 sacks as a junior. |
56 | Alvonte Bell DE 6-5, 220 Miramar Everglades | Committed to Kentucky. A freelancer who could develop into one of the top rush ends in the SEC with some fundamentals and more coaching. Relatively new to football but has tremendous upside and is a specimen of an athlete. He quick and long and should give Mark Stoops plenty to work with. He could have All-SEC in his future. |
73 | Jesus Wilson WR 5-9, 165 Miami Columbus | Committed to Florida State and has remained strong in his pledge even throughout the course of the numerous coaching changes FSU has endured over the past two months. Even with main recruiter James Coley leaving for Miami, Wilson remains unfazed. |
53 | Ronnie Moore QB 5-10, 175 Sanford Seminole | Committed to Bowling Green. Moore is one of the best all-around athletes in that state. As a senior, he rushed for 939 yards and 13 TDs, caught 484 yards of passes and four more TDs, threw for 332 yards in Wildcat QB duty, and he also had 8 interceptions on defense, as well as three more post-season all-star picks. MVP of Central Florida All-Star Game, also played in FCAC North-South All-Star Game and was the Sentinel's Cenral Florida Iron Man Award winner. |
80 | Dominic Walker WR 6-2, 185 Orlando Evans | Committed to Auburn after decommitting from Vanderbilt and Nebraska. Walker was the workhorse of the Evans duo he formed with Tony Stevens. He made his living across the middle or in traffic when short-yardage is a must. He's not as long as Stevens, but he's just as fast. Let him get behind you, however, you're like a side item at I-Hop — toast. |
60 | Devin Washington DE 6-3, 225 Orlando Jones | Committed to South Carolina last summer. He's as much an ambassador off the field as he is on it, but don't let that gentleman persona fool you. Quarterbacks who have faced him know all too well about the speed with which he comes off the end. Jones career was hampered by injuries so it will be key for Washington to stay on the field. He is the brother of Florida commit Nick Washington of Jacksonville Trinity Christian. |
116 | Daryl Chestnut RB 5-10, 180 Miami Columbus | Committed to Western Michigan. Had 13 offers and once had top four of Texas Tech, West Virginia, Florida State and Kentucky, but all four schools backed off. He could be the BMOC at Western and the MAAC always seems to have a top-flight rusher emerge from the pack. Had 545 yards this season splitting time with Lorenzo Woodley. |
116 | Shaquille Griffin S 6-2, 190 St. Petersburg Lakewood | Committed to UCF. Griffin, whose twin brother Shaquem is also committed to the Knights, has great size, strength and speed at the safety position and cold be on the field early at UCF. He'll be a key figure in nickel and dime packages and is not afraid to step to the line of scrimmage. Can go toe-to-toe with any receiver on this board. |
53 | Cord Sandberg QB 6-2, 211 Bradenton Manatee | Committed to Mississippi State. Sandberg is starting to draw comparisons to former Gator Tim Tebow, which is given more fuel for the fodder by the fact that Tebow's former offensive coordinator at UF is now head coach at MSU in Dan Mullins. Sandberg is a tough-nosed QB and led Manatee to the state title last year. Was also named Class 7A player of the year. There continues to be talk, however, that Sandberg will eventually opt to take the baseball rout after he finds out his status in this summer's amateur draft. |
106 | Tshumbi Johnson ATH 5-11, 185 Immokalee | Committed to Cincinnati. Tshumbi wanted to play QB in college but he seems to be open now to the idea of playing receiver or slot. Decommitted from USF. Tshumbi is another talented athlete at the Immokalee football mill. With all his talent, limiting him to QB would see like a waste anyway. He can do so many things from a slot position. That is, if he wants to. |
67 | Lamar Robbins CB 6-3, 183 Miami Southridge | Committed to USF. Robbins likes to fly to the ball. Has great length for a corner and does well in cutting off quick patterns as QBs try to dink passes in front of him. He's like a receiver on defense and if he gets a pick, he won't be easy to bring down coming the other way. |
151 | Blake Keller DE 6-2, 215 Bradenton Manatee | Committed to UCF. The Knights have found themselves a hidden gem, who came out of hiding on national TV against Miramar on Labor Day weekend, ironically. On a weekend of rest for the laborers, Keller was putting in work and had 2 blocked punts, 2.5 sacks and 4 TFL in an ESPN2 telecast. He has good speed and great use of his hands in fending off blockers. |
88 | Khalid Thomas ATH 5-9, 170 Tallahassee Godby | Committed to Kentucky. Rushed for more than 1,400 yards as a senior and helped lead a talented Godby bunch to the Florida state Class 5A title in a wild game agianst Immokalee. Gives Kentucky a nice haul of running backs with DeLand's JoJo Kemp in the 2013 class. |
43 | Travis Johnson WR 6-4, 200 Tampa Jesuit | Commits to Concinnati after deommitting from Miami. Johnson doesn't exactly look the part. In fact, he looks more like he's lost in a time warp from the 70s with his big hair, but throw him the football and it'll stick to his hands like glue. He may end up better suited as tight end in the future, but that would depend on development of blocking skills. He's best in traffic and get it near him and he'll catch it. Also has deceptive speed and runs routes on a seam. |
51 | Adam Lane RB 5-7, 207 Winter Haven | Committed to Florida. This bowling ball-type of running back has put up impressive numbers over the course of his Winter Haven career. He missed his junior season with a knee injury, but came back strong as a senior to run for more than 1,400 yards and had 12 touchdonws. Will carry load of a fullback at UF. |
81 | Ahmad Thomas S 6-0, 195 Miami Central | Committed to Oklahoma and is already on campus as early enrollee. Thomas is a typical Miami-Dade defensive back with athleticism and solid cover skills. Sooners need some depth at corner and its to Thomas' advantage to be able to go through spring drills. He'll likley get on the field early in Norman. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis All-American |
69 | Michael Johnson CB 5-10, 170 Miami Booker T. Washington | Committed to Florida State, to which he pledged way back in February just after the 2012 National Signing Day. It's gotta be a little disconcerting for Seminoles fans to see him taking a last-weekend visit to Marshall, because that kind of trip only means there could be academic concerns. |
122 | Fred Coppet RB 5-9, 170 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas | Committed to Bowling Green, one of four running backs the Falcons have landed in this 2013 recruitng period and it looks like there will be plenty of slot action in Coppet's future. Abe big part of the St, Thomas offense, Coppet broke out in the state title game with 155 yards and a TD. |
47 | Will Likely CB 5-7, 171 Belle Glade Glades Central | Committed to Maryland. He may be small of stature, but that certinaly hasn't stopped Likely from being one of the top cover corners in the state. He likely ends up at corner, but he also had a great senior year at running back, posting more thna 1,200 yards rushing for Central. He also scored 17 TDs on the ground and had six return touchdowns. He's kind of fast too. |
42 | Terrence Ross S 6-2, 185 Apopka Wekiva | Committed to Louisville. There is a hidden gem out on the fringes of Orange County, lost in the football abyss of Wekiva High, but someone named Charlie Strong found him. Ross is a specimen of a safety who could even play linebacker if his size develops enough to require a move. He's a big hitter but more importantly makes plays on the ball, not just the body. Was one of the MVPs at the FACA North-South All-Star Game in December. |
42 | Sojourn Shelton CB 5-10, 160 Plantation | Enrolled at Wisconsin. Shelton committed to Florida State way back in the 2011 summer after his sophomore year. He decided to part ways with FSU this past July and really fell for the Badgers coaching staff. Despite much of the staff and head coach Bret Bielema moving on to Arkansas, he stayed with Wisconsin and enrolled this month. |
64 | Joey Ivie DE 6-4, 275 Dade City Pasco | Enrolled at Florida. A big rush end who could be moved around on the line, has great athelticism for his size. Also very good length and reach for a big man. Committed to the Gators last June and has been a staunch UF pledge ever since. He is already enrolled and will go thorugh spring ball. |
NR | Derrick Calloway DT 6-1, 320 Bradenton Manatee | Committed to USF. Calloway flirted with a commitment to Louisville for a month before breaking off his shortlived pledge with the Cards to join new Bulls coach Willie Taggart and his staff at USF. He has still taken his final two official vists the past two weekends to Louisville and Arkansas, but we don't thing USF is too concerned. Together with Blake Keller, Marquis Dawsey and Demarcus Christmas — a 2014 commit to FSU — form one of the best defensive lines in the state for a team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today for most of the past season before losing to eventual state champ St. Thomas. |
NR | Ira Denson 6-4 6-4, 316 Madison | Committed to Florida State. Big Ira is a run-blocking phenom who puts down defender after defender. Like most of these big high school heavies, he'll need to build up some stamina at FSU, but college coaches have a way of bringing that out. It's scary to thknk what this kid will be able to do when he completely in shape under the guidance of a strength and conditioning trainer. |
45 | Jermaine Grace LB 6-1, 195 Miramar | Grace remains undecided and will pick between Miami and Louisville. He will make the choice public on ESPNU at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Grace, a bit of a smaller-framed LB than most D1 recruits, could see his future in more of a pass-coverage role. He has great athleticism and good length and speed. His versatility will give the Cards the option to switch quickly into a nickel package without changing personnel. |
45 | Jeremy Benjamin LB 6-3, 220 Hollywood MacArthur | Committed to Marshall. Benjamin is somewhat like Bell at Everglades, but his a bit more seasoned. There is tons of upside with Benjamin, as well, and his athleticism alone has got him to this point. With some work at the next level he could become an All-conference-type player, depending on what conference the Herd ends up in. |
45 | Johnell Barnes WR 6-0, 170 Naples Dunbar | Committed to Duke. Was the wide receivers MVP at the Orlando Nike Football Training Camp, and there was a ton of quality competition at that event. Barnes had 27 catches for 465 yards and 8 touchdowns this past season for a Dunbar squad that went undefeated all the way to the Florida Class 6A semifinals before losing to Miami Central. |
32 | Reggie Wilkerson WR 5-11, 175 Citra North Marion | Committed to Georgia. Wilkerson is a slot-type of player whose athleticism could make him very versatile at UGa. He cuaght 35 passes for 450-yards and six TDs. He also plays a formidable cornerback and could wind up on the defensive side of the ball as the Bulldogs looks for depth there. UGa could have a nice two-way player in Wilkerson if they choose to use him in such capacity. They'll have plenty of time to work with him since he is enrolled early and ready to go for spring. |
71 | Joey Fennell OL 6-4, 300 South Fort Myers | Committed to Western Kentucky for the second time last week after briefly flirting with the idea of following new coach Willie Taggart and his staff to USF. He committed to Western last August but then decommitted for the Bulls in December. Last week the big man flipped back to the Hilltoppers and it looks like that's with whom he will sign. |
33 | Jayron Kearse ATH 6-r, 185 South Fort Myers | Committed to Clemson. He looks like kind of a freak out on the field with his 6-foot-5 frame and skinny body. That's somewhat appropriate in that his uncle is the real 'Freak' himself in former UF star Jevon Kearse. Kearse can play any number of posoitions, but is likely a safety at Clemson. He seems more like a basketball player at first glance, but his athleticism gives him plenty of advantage on the football field. |
83 | Jamari Smith RB 6-0, 200 Neptune Beach Fletcher | Committed to South Carolina. The Florida Times Union offensive player of the year as a junior had 2,100-plus yards and Fletcher amost made the state title game. As a senior, Smith fell off a bit with 1,600+ yards, but blowouts had him sitting in the second half of many games |
76 | Seyvon Lowry LB 6-3, 228 Jacksonville First Coast | Committed to UCF. Quick and athletic, Lowry played a lot of rush end at First Coast, but will most likely be an outside linebacker for George O'Leary's crew. He's quick off the ball and blocked nine punts in his career with the Bucs. He had 17 sacks and 48 tackls as a senior. |
90 | Michael White QB 6-5, 195 Fort Lauderdale University | Committed to USF. Accuracy is the name of the game for White, who guided the Suns to an unscathed state championship run at 15-0. He completed 68 percent of his passes for 2,201 yards and 22 touchdowns. He was 176-of-256 and only threw two picks. Was offered by USF coach Willie Taggart right after the state title game and accepted onthe spot. |
94 | T.J. Johnson RB 5-8, 165 Cape Coral Island Coast | Committed to Arizona. The speedy Johnson will likely spend most of his time inthe slot for the Wildcats, and he can fill in at either reciever, slot or running back positions. He ran for 545 yards and five TDs and caught 38 passes for 588 yards and six TDs. Also had two return Tds. |
94 | Boaz Joseph CB 6-1, 185 Weston Cypres Bay | Committed to Nebraska. Under-the-radar cornerback rolled in several late offers with Kentucky, Wisconsin and Purdue hot on the chase. He's a strong physical d-back with 4.4 speed. He's also versatile and can play strong or free safety and both corner spots. 'Huskers are getting a sleeper here, and a good one. |
94 | Lorenzo Woodley RB 6-0, 200 Miami Columbus | Woodley was on an official visit to UMass on this last recruiting weekend and he also is considering Purdue, Cincy, NC State and Pitt. He's a big back and was the Columbus bruiser to teammate Daryl Chestnut's finesse. He still has good speed for a bigger back. |
55 | Ramsey Meyers OG 6-4, 296 Orange Park Ridgeview | Committed to Kentucky since the summer. Meyers is a gifted blocker who has good technique whether in pass protection or run blocking. He was mostly run blocking at Ridgeview, and has great leverage in driving his blocker away from first-level pursuit. He also gets upfield nicely. As a pass blocker he stands firm and does a nice job forcing things to the outside. He has good feet and is far more active than some of the lineman rated much higher by other sources. |
55 | Micah Reed RB 5-11, 190 Crestview | Committed to UCF. Reed committed to the Knights early and somehow, despite flirtatious attention from numerous other schools, has stood by his commitment in this the 'Year of the Decommitments.' Rushed for 1,640 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also had almost 200 yards receiving on six catches. "UCF is getting a great player," said his former coach Kevin Pettis. |
55 | Robert Davis Jr. RB 5-8, 160 Tampa Carrollwood Day | Looks to be down to Memphis and Cincinnati as National Signing Day approaches. He ran for 2,221 yards during his senior season and the shifty little back is the all-time leading rusher in Hillsborough County. He has already decommitted from Cincy once and he took a visit to Boston College on the final weekend. |
135 | Akeem Jones QB 6-2, 180 Carol City | Undecided. He visited Syracuse recently and it remains his only offer. One of the most talented athletes in all of Florida without an offer. Coaches remain baffled as to why he's been overlooked as a solid QB prospect. He doesn't make mistakes, has a tremendous arm and can run away from chasers. Has devoted season to best friend who was killed as an innocent bystander back in July. Jones won top QB honor at Friday Night Lights. |
19 | Asiantii Woulard QB 6-3, 205 Winter Park | Woulard is undecided with UCLA and USF looking to be his final two schools. He decommitted from USF at the beginning of Decmeber. He was invoted to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, but the Elite 11 MVP broke his fibula in the final game of the season and it was not worth the risk toplay in that game. UCLA rolled out the glitz and glamour during his official visit. We'll find out Wendesday if he's making plans for Hollywood. Woulard is supposed to make his anouncement at 12:30 p.m. from the ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney. |
Evan Harvey LB 6-1, 200 Delray Beach American Heritage | Committed to Lehigh because he loved the school so much and the tradition of the football program. Harvey was selected as Mr. 100 by an internet fan vote. He trasnferred from Dwyer just before the season. This hard-nosed linebacker should be playing Division I-A ball somewhere next year, but he's opted for a nice opportunity at Lehigh in both football and education.
