The Wichita State and Missouri State baseball teams were the coaches pick to finish 1-2 in the Valley this season. So the Shockers probably new getting a sweep over the Bears would be tough. Despite that, WSU had a chance to sweep MSU, with a win on Sunday afternoon at Eck Stadium.
The Bears would take an early 1-0 lead in the second, but would answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Pendulum swings the other way when Mo State pushed across two more runs in the top of the third to go back on top 3-2.
Game would stay that way until the eighth when the Shockers would tie the game.
Again the Bears would answer, scoring the final and decisive run in the top of the ninth, avoiding the sweep with the 4-3 victory.
Ray Ashford gets the loss in relief. Erik Harbutz went 3-for-4, while Tanner Dearman, Casey Gillaspie and Dayne Parker each had a RBI.
WSU is back in action on Tuesday when the host Nebraska.
