WICHITA, Kansas -

The Wichita State baseball opened up Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon in a big way. The Shockers, playing in front of the home town fans at Eck Stadium, picked up the 5-0 win over Missouri State.

WSU got seven shutout innings from A.J. Ladwig who also allowed just seven hits with no walks and he struck out six.

The Shockers got the offense going in the fourth inning when Chase Simpson hit a two run home run. A Dayne Parker ground out in the seventh scored Micah Green.

In the eighth WSU got two more runs one on an error and one on a double by Simpson. The junior was 3-for-3 with two runs, three RBI, a double and a home run.

The Shockers and Bears continue the series on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
