Daniel Kihle went 4-for-4 and had two RBI, including the go ahead two-out two RBI double as Wichita State beat Oral Roberts 6-5 on Tuesday night in Eck Stadium. Ray Ashford earned the win for the Shockers striking out three in three innings of work.
Daniel Kihle started things off for the Shockers when he singled to right to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Kihle advanced to third on successful hit and run by Tanner Dearman. Garrett Bayliff brought both Kihle and Dearman home with a two RBI double to deep right field and an early 2-0 Wichita State lead. Casey Gillaspie matched Bayliff with a RBI double of his own and a 3-0 Shocker lead. Wichita State put their fourth run on the board when Gillaspie scored on a RBI groundout from Dayne Parker.
Anthony Sequeira walked to lead off the second for Oral Roberts and later scored on a RBI double from Graham McIntyre to cut into the Wichita State lead at 4-1.
The Golden Eagles evened things up in the fourth by tacking on three runs. Audie Afenir doubled to right center field and advanced to third on a single by McIntyre. Afenir scored on a Wichita State fielding error to cut the deficit to 4-2. Logan Domenico singled to right that brought home McIntyre and Matt Brandy immediately followed with another single and tied the game at 4-4.
Kihle answered back for Wichita State with a two-out two RBI double that scored Tyler Baker and Tanner Kirk for a 6-4 Shocker advantage. Baker and Kirk singled before scoring on Kihle’s clutch double to left.
Wichita State escaped an Oral Roberts threat in the seventh.
With runners on first and second and nobody out, Shocker reliever Drew Palmer was able to get the Golden Eagles to ground into a 6-4-3 double play and Baker caught Tyler Boss attempting to steal to end the inning. Oral Roberts did score one run to get within 6-5.
