Wichita State scored two runs in the fifth to defeat Illinois State 2-1 in game two of a three-game series.
Starter Sam Tewes pitched six innings and gave up one run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Cale Elam picked up the save with two shutout innings.
Dayne Parker went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Casey Gillaspie went 1-for-2 with two walks.
The Redbirds got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Mason Snyder doubled to right-center and he scored on a single to right field by Dennis Colon to give ILS a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Tanner Dearman led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on Erik Harbutz’s one-out single to right field. After a walk to Casey Gillaspie loaded the bases, Dayne Parker’s bunt single scored Dearman to tie the score at one. After a fielder’s choice, Gillaspie scored on a wild pitch to give the Shocks a 2-1 lead.
The Shockers and Redbirds wrap up the series on Sat., May 17 at 1 p.m.
