A Dayne Parker single to right with runners on first and second with two outs gave Wichita State a 4-3 victory against Southern Illinois in 12 innings inside Eck Stadium. The Shockers moved to 20-18 on the year while Southern Illinois dropped to 20-19.

Aaron LaBrie picked up the win and improved to 3-2 on the year while Tyler Dray took the loss and fell to 0-2 on the year. Cale Elam pitched eight and a third innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits with ten strikeouts. Todd Eaton pitched seven and a third innings and gave up two runs on ten hits while striking out three.

Parker and Casey Gillaspie led the way for the Shockers. As Parker went 2-6 with a home run and two RBI, Gillaspie went 2-5 with a home run of his own, a double and a RBI.

Ryan Casillas led the way for the Salukis. He went 2-6 with a double, a home run and a RBI.

Tanner Dearman singled, stole second, advanced to third from a throwing error by SIU catcher Matt Jones and stole home to score the first run of the game. This gave the Shockers a 1-0 lead over the Salukis after the end of the third inning.

SIU tied the game at one apiece during the top of the fifth after Jake Hand advanced to third and scored on a throwing error by Elam after Jones grounded out to Gillaspie.

Gillaspie then hit his tenth home run to right field to give the Shockers a 2-1 lead during the bottom of the sixth. With one out in the top of the ninth, Casillas homered to left center to tie the game at two.

The game would go to extra innings with neither team scoring until the top of the 11th when Conner Kopach singled to right, plating Hand, giving Southern Illinois a 3-2 lead into the bottom half of the 11th.

Parker tied the game at three apiece during the bottom of the 11th after hitting his first home run of the year. In the bottom of the 12th, Parker drove in the game-winning single that scored Joe Haddox from second.

The last game of the Shockers’ three-game series with Southern Illinois takes place on Sunday inside Eck Stadium at noon.
