The Wichita State now knows who its first round NCAA opponent will be. The Shockers will get Cal-Poly after the Mustangs knocked off Texas Southern 81-69 in the NCAA opening round.
Cal-Poly entered the game with a 13-19 record, but has won 12 of its last 14 games. The Mustangs got 19 points from Chris Eversley.
They now head off to St. Louis, where the Shockers have been since early Wednesday evening. Even before he knew who WSU’s opponent would be, head coach Gregg Marshall didn’t want to look past game number one.
“You don't play well and it's over,” said Marshall. “This is a one and done scenario and our team has been through that quite a bit in the last year or so the last couple of years. We just have to play well, we have to defend and rebound like we know we can we have to shoot the ball and then hopefully get to Sunday.”
Cal-Poly is the only team in the tournament with a losing record. They are now 14-19.
