A cooler day is on tap with gusty north winds developing in the west during the afternoon. Wind gusts to 45 m.p.h. are possible in northwest Kansas as a cold front moves through the region. Highs will reach the 40s and lower 50s.
Tonight another surge of even colder air is expected from the north. Temperatures will rapidly drop into the 20s and 30s after sunset and into the teens by early morning.
A cold Arctic air mass will encompass most of the Great Lakes and Midwest on Monday with the western edge of this bitter cold air influencing temperatures across central and eastern Kansas. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 20s in Topeka and Kansas City, to the middle 40s in southwest Kansas.
Warmer temperatures will return Tuesday through Thursday followed by another cold shot as we head into the later half of the week. Unfortunately, these frontal passages look to bring no rain or snow to the region, so the dry weather trend will continue across Kansas.
