It's the first sign of spring and only fitting for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. Wild weather with showers and thunderstorms (some strong) in some parts of the state with a developing blizzard in other sections of Kansas today. A Blizzard Warning has been posted for northwest Kansas through 9 A.M. Sunday, while thunderstorms are possible across the central and eastern sections of the state later this afternoon. The missing ingredient for severe storms across the southern half of the state is sunshine. If the sun makes an appearance this afternoon, the atmosphere may destabilize and strong to severe storms are possible. On the other hand, if the sun doesn't shine, then expect showers and thunderstorms (non-severe) across this region. Highs will range from the 60s central and eastern Kansas to the 40s in the northwest. It will be a windy day, common with "early spring" storms. Snowfall accumulations of 1" are possible across northwest Kansas by late afternoon.
Expect any rain to change over to snow tonight and last through the overnight in central Kansas with some change over possible in Wichita by morning (no accumulations). Snowfall accumulations (for northern Kansas) by midday Sunday will range from 3-6", with pockets of locally higher amounts in northeast Colorado. North central Kansas will have 1" or less.
A much cooler and windy Sunday is in store, along with a cool Monday. Temperatures are set to rebound though the rest of next week.
