How K-Dot decides when to close I-70

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed an emergency declaration for all of Kansas as a winter weather system moves across the state.
The measure allows state agencies to assist local governments as needed during the winter blast.
The first wave of the system started to die down Wednesday afternoon, but more inclement weather is expected early Thursday morning. Brownback announced that all state offices will be closed Feb. 21 in anticipation of deteriorating conditions.
“Every indication is that our state is going to receive a tremendous amount of snow in the next 24 hours," Brownback said. "I want to urge Kansans to heed the winter weather warnings and avoid traveling tomorrow. Our state agencies are ready to respond as needed to assist Kansans and counties who may need additional assistance.”
This closure will affect non-essential Executive Branch employees scheduled to work between 6 a.m. on Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.
This declaration does not include employees in the Board of Regents, Regents Institutions, the Judicial Branch, nor the Legislative Branch of Government. Their designated representative will make a separate declaration for those employees if appropriate.
