Kansas residents, businesses eligible to apply for SBA disaster loans
Sedgwick County and the contiguous counties of Butler, Cowley, Harvey, Kingman, Reno, and Sumner have received a Small Business Administration disaster declaration. Gov. Sam Brownback requested the declaration April 20 for damages suffered from the EF-3 tornado and severe storms that struck the area April 14 and 15.
“We appreciate the quick response to this request from SBA Administrator Karen Mills,” said Brownback. “These loans will assist Kansans in beginning to rebuild and get their lives back to some normalcy.”
SBA representatives will be available at the Carlton School, 4900 S. Clifton, Wichita, beginning Tuesday, April 24 to issue loan applications and answer questions. The loan outreach center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6p.m. until further notice.
“When communities are hit with significant storms, it’s important to get them help quickly,” said Maj. Gen. (KS) Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general and director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management. “We encourage individuals and business owners to take advantage of this assistance and apply for these low-interest loans.”
The disaster declaration makes low-interest, long-term loans of up to $200,000 available to homeowners, renters and businesses to replace damaged or destroyed real estate.
Homeowners and renters may be eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. Businesses of any size and private, nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.
