Father of Olivia Jansen, father’s girlfriend charged with murder in connection to 3-year-old’s death
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KWCH) - (Update 8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020) Kansas City station KCTV reports that the father of Olivia Jansen, Howard Jansen, and his girlfriend, Jacqulyn Kirkpatrick, were formally charged with murder in connection to the death of the 3-year-old.
The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office announced that they were both charged with first-degree murder, aggravated endangerment of a child, and criminal desecration.
Both are being held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
The investigation is still ongoing.
(Update 11:55 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020) Kansas City station KCTV reports two people are now in custody in connection with the death of 3-year-old Olivia Jansen. Both Howard Jansen, the father, and his girlfriend Jackie Kirkpatrick, are in the Wyandotte County Jail with no formal charges yet.
(Update 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020) Kansas City station KCTV reports online jail records show that the father of a 3-year-old girl believed dead after being reported missing Friday morning and becoming the subject of an Amber Alert, was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and child abuse.
Howard Jansen’s arrest happened after police said a body found in the area is believed to be that of 3-year-old Olivia Jansen.
The KBI reports a body found in the Kansas City area is “believed to be” that of 3-year-old Olivia Jansen, reported missing from her home Friday morning.
The Amber Alert is canceled.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that in the last 30 minutes our officers have discovered a body in the 3400 block of Steele that we believe to be that of missing 3-year-old Olivia Jansen,” Kansas City, Kan. police said shortly after the discovery. “We thank everyone who shared our posts and reached out with tips and offers of assistance throughout the day. For that reason we wanted to share this information as swiftly as possible. This is not the outcome we wanted, in fact it is the worst outcome.”
A three-year-old girl has gone missing from her Kansas City, Kansas home Friday morning.
Olivia Jansen was last seen wearing pajamas with a pink top and purple or teal bottoms and with her hair in a ponytail. She was last seen at the family’s residence at 4444 Gibbs Road, Kansas City, Kansas.
Olivia’s father woke up at 6:30 a.m. and saw that the residence’s back door was open and that Olivia was not in the house. Due to her age and search area, investigators believe that she was taken from the residence.
Olivia is 3′ tall, with brown hair and blue-green eyes.
There is no information yet on a suspect or vehicle.
