KHP identifies man killed after car crashes off bridge, lands on van on Kansas Turnpike
ANDOVER, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Tuesday, August 18, 2020: The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified a man killed Sunday night after a car drove off a bridge in Andover. The vehicle then struck a van traveling on the Kansas Turnpike.
According to the online crash log, a 2018 Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on 13th Street when the driver lost control, jumped the curb, struck a tree and drove through a fence line. The car went down into a ravine, struck a drainage culvert, went airborne landing on a 2020 RAM van.
The driver of the car and the driver of the van were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The passenger in the van, 33-year-old Josue David Elena of Kansas City, Mo., died on the scene.
Update: One person is dead and two others have severe injuries after a car speeding over the 13th Street Bridge in Andover lost control and went over the bridge.
Capt. John Lahnherr with the Kansas Highway Patrol said the car struck a minivan on I-35 when it crashed off the bridge on Sunday around 7:50 p.m.
A man in the car who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the minivan was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in the minivan died on the scene.
Both north and southbound lanes of I-35 will be closed until at least 11 p.m.
Capt. Lahnherr said the accident happened in a construction zone.
One person is dead after a car drove off of the 13th Street bridge in Andover.
One person has severe injuries and another has serious but not immediately life-threatening injuries.
The car landed on I-35, with all lanes blocked at this time.
