WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Monday, August 31, 2020: The Wichita Police Department has identified a man killed in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday as 94-year-old Ralph Hunt of Wichita.

Around 3:15 p.m., officers responded to an injury accident at West 17th Street and North West Street. Officers arrived and found Hunt unresponsive. Fire and EMS personnel tried to revive Hunt, but he died on the scene.

The investigation revealed that a red Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 22-year-old man, and a tan Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 17-year-old man, were both traveling south on North West Street. The two trucks collided with Hunt, who was driving a white Lincoln Town Car west on West 17th Street. The 17-year-old driver received non-life-threatening injuries. A 15-year-old male passenger in the Town Car received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the two pick-up drivers’ roles.

Saturday, August 29, 2020: Three vehicles, including two trucks, were involved in a fatal accident at 17th and West after 3 p.m. Saturday.

A white vehicle driven by an 80-year-old man pulled off of 17th Street into the paths of two trucks going southbound on West Street, according to witnesses. The 80-year-old driver of the white vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene and a 17-year-old who was in the back seat was transported to the hospital with critical conditions.

The drivers of the two pickup trucks were 17 and 18-years-old. The 17-year-old was sent to the hospital at the request of his mother. The 18-year-old refused assistance with only soreness and a passenger of one of the trucks also refused assistance on scene, according to Wichita Police Sgt. Troy Nedbalek.

WPD said speed may be a factor in the accident. West Street at that intersection will be closed for two to three hours.

“At this time, we’re not sure if they were racing or maybe if they were just exceeding the speed limit or maybe they just had loud mufflers,” Nedbalek said. “We’re trying to determine all those factors.”

Update: Five men were involved in an accident at 17th and West Saturday afternoon.

One of the men died and two others were transported to the hospital. The two other men refused assistance.
