Police: 4-year-old killed, teen injured in Garden City shooting

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KWCH) - Garden City police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after a shooting which left a four-year-old girl dead and a 16-year-old boy injured.

Police said around 12:45 p.m., officers were called to a shooting that had just occurred. The teen said he was in the area of Abe Hubert Elementary School. Officers arrived and located the 16-year-old with a gunshot wound. Officers learned neither the school nor USD 457 was involved in the incident. The boy was transported to St. Catherine Hospital with critical injuries.

While officers were investigating the incident in the parking lot of Abe Hubert, dispatchers were notified of a second shooting victim at 1307 N. 12th Street. Officers arrived and found a 4-year-old girl with a gunshot wound. She was transported by Finney County EMS to St. Catherine Hospital where she later died.

Officers learned the incident was the result of a domestic dispute. They arrested 31-year-old Justin Franco at his residence in the 1300 block of N. 12th Street,.

Police say the investigation is on-going. More information may be released at a briefing in Garden City at 4:30 p.m.
