No. 18 Texas Tech tops K-State 82-71 for 1st Big 12 home win
LUBBOCK Texas (AP) - Terrence Shannon Jr. beat the first-half buzzer with a jumper on his way to 22 points, Mac McClung added 16 and No. 18 Texas Tech beat Kansas State 82-71 Tuesday night in Lubbock. Marcus Santos-Silva scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half as the Red Raiders picked up their first conference home victory after losing two. Nigel Pack, one of three freshmen making a seventh straight start for Kansas State, scored 15 of his season-high 17 points in the first half. Fellow freshman Selton Miguel matched his season high with 17. Seven-foot freshman Davion Bradford and senior gurad Mike McGuirl scored 10 points apiece to round out the list of Wildcats in double-figure scoring.
The Wildcats led by as many as seven near the midway point of the first half, but went into the break down five after Shannon Jr.’s buzzer-beating jumper. In the second half, K-State trailed 39-35 early, but couldn’t overtake Texas Tech as the Red Raiders gradually expanded its lead to as many as 17 at the under-12-minute timeout. K-State fought back within nine with seven minutes left, but couldn’t put enough pressure on Texas Tech in the final stretch.
K-State, dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12, will look to get back on the winning track at home Saturday (Jan. 9) against Oklahoma State.
