WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Rogers presented City of Wichita officials with a check for $22,000 in unclaimed property on Friday.

Rogers said the money represented a number of different ways money had been left and even different names such as Wichita City versus City of Wichita, in which it had been submitted.

The state treasurer said when he first transitioned into the office of state treasurer he checked the names of people he knew to see if they had any unclaimed property. Much like the situation with the city, he said its good to check each part of your name and even different spellings.

“We have found a lot of different funds for people and we want to return that. Because that’s not the State of Kansas’ money, that’s your money, and it’s important that it comes back to you,” said Rogers.

He said the State of Kansas has been able to locate almost $78,000 in unclaimed property for the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, Wichita State University and USD 259.
