WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update Monday, June 21, 2021: Records from the Sedgwick County Jail confirm the arrest of a third suspect in connection with an April 25 deadly shooting at Morgans Landing Apartments in west Wichita. Police arrested 25-year-old Jaron C. Palmer, of Wichita on charges that include multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a child and first-degree murder in commission of a felony.

Palmer’s arrest comes nearly two months after police arrested two 18-year-olds for first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Eric Stokes.

Update: The Wichita Police Department is searching for a 25-year-old Jaron C. Palmer of Wichita, in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Eric Stokes at the Morgan’s Landing Apartments last weekend.

Police arrested both 18-year-old Breckyn Elliott and 18-year-old Easton Palmer for first-degree murder in Stokes’ death

Easton Palmer is scheduled for his first appearance in court Friday afternoon. He’s being held in jail on a $250,000 bail.

An 18-year-old has been booked into jail in connection to a fatal shooting of a teenager that occurred in west Wichita Sunday.

Easton Palmer was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery early Wednesday morning.

Police said that they were able to identify him as a suspect from tips.

Police are still looking for at least two other suspects.

Police released video of two possible suspects they said forced entry into an apartment in the Morgan’s Landing apartment complex.

Update: Wichita police identified a 17-year-old boy shot and killed Sunday night as Eric Stokes.

Police said five people were in a unit at the Morgan’s Landing apartment complex, 3801 W 13th St N, when three unknown suspects armed with handguns forced their way inside. The five people went to a bedroom and the suspects, who were wearing masks, started firing, striking two people in the room.

Stokes died from his gunshot wound. Another 17-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, treated and released.

Wichita police do not believe the shooting was random. They also believe drugs to be a factor.

There has been an increase in police calls at Morgans Landing and Magnolia Woods, an adjacent complex. Police said officers responded to 267 calls in 2019, 465 calls in 2020 and 188 calls so far this year at both complexes.

The department said it will continue to work with management at Morgans Landing and Magnolia Woods to reduce violent crime in the area.

Update: Around 6:55 p.m., officers were called to a shooting at the Morgan’s Landing Apartments, in the 3800 hundred block of West 13th Street North.

Officers said when they arrived, they found two males that had suffered gunshot wounds. One was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The other was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they believe the suspect left the area on foot. They are interviewing several people in reference to the incident, as they work to determine if anyone else is involved.

Police have checked the area extensively and will continue to check. They ask if anyone has any information to call 911.

Police in Northwest Wichita are responding to a shooting call in the 3800 hundred block of West 13th St North.
